20 Ecommerce Push Notification Ideas

Plan useful notifications with consent, relevance, frequency limits and a measurable outcome instead of sending the same campaign to everyone.

Begin with permission and a useful reason

A notification competes with personal messages. Explain its benefit before asking for permission and let the customer change preferences. Transactional updates and promotional campaigns have different purposes; confirm the applicable consent rules for your audience.

Do not infer permission from possession of a device token. Keep the permission state, token lifecycle and opt-out behavior consistent across your systems.

Twenty campaign ideas to evaluate

  • Order accepted, with a link to its details.
  • A verified payment problem requiring customer action.
  • Order dispatched with tracking.
  • Parcel ready for collection.
  • Delivery exception and a support link.
  • A customer-requested back-in-stock alert.
  • A saved product’s price change.
  • A reminder for a saved list before a relevant season.
  • A replenishment reminder based on a realistic purchase interval.
  • A useful accessory after a compatible purchase.
  • New arrivals in a followed category.
  • Early access for an eligible loyalty segment.
  • Expiring loyalty benefits, with clear conditions.
  • An abandoned basket reminder where appropriate and permitted.
  • A follow-up answering common product setup questions.
  • A review request after confirmed delivery.
  • A local collection-point service update.
  • A personalized offer with transparent expiry.
  • Re-engagement after a defined inactive period.
  • A preference check when engagement has declined.

Set rules before sending

Use a local-time delivery window, a frequency cap and suppression after a customer has completed the action. Remove canceled orders from fulfillment campaigns. A reminder for an already purchased product is a data problem, not a copywriting problem.

Deep links should open the correct product or order and fail gracefully if it is unavailable. Avoid putting sensitive order information in a lock-screen message.

Measure value and harm

Track delivered notifications, opens where available, target actions and incremental gross profit. Also watch opt-outs, complaints and uninstalls. Compare with a holdout group when possible; an order placed after a message is not automatically caused by it.

In Vendra, the customer portal currently supports campaign preparation and launch requests. Actual delivery requires the application’s device registration, provider configuration and permissions; a saved draft is not a sent notification.
