WooCommerce Mobile App: Integration Guide

Plan WooCommerce products, variations, customer accounts, inventory and checkout before building an iOS and Android shopping app.

Define the integration boundary

A customer shopping app is different from the official WooCommerce app used to manage a store. The customer app needs a catalog, a basket and a safe purchasing journey. WooCommerce’s REST API exposes commerce resources, but the presence of an endpoint does not establish a complete mobile checkout.

Start by listing WordPress and WooCommerce versions, installed extensions and where prices and stock originate. Use a staging store with representative data for the first tests.

Product variations need explicit mapping

A product family, a purchasable variation and a stock-keeping unit are not interchangeable. Map variation attributes, images, prices and availability together. Test a variable product with an unavailable combination and one with an image specific to the selected color.

If a product add-on changes the price, describe whether its rule is available through an API or only through a website script. An app cannot safely guess a plugin’s calculation.

Orders and stock need a source of truth

Agree which system owns stock, when an order reserves it and how cancellation releases it. Define retries and duplicate protection before adding automatic exchange. Test a timeout after a successful order creation: repeating the request must not create a second order.

A periodic reconciliation is useful when updates are missed. Compare identifiers and business state rather than assuming that a successful HTTP response means all fields were imported correctly.

Review checkout, accounts and plugins separately

Existing customer accounts are a separate security design decision. Do not copy password hashes into a mobile app or expose a store API secret to the device.

  • Payment and delivery plugins: confirm the mobile flow and server verification.
  • WPML or Polylang: identify language mapping and translated product identifiers.
  • WooCommerce Subscriptions: verify renewal and customer account behavior.
  • Custom checkout and product add-ons: list required fields and price rules.

Prepare acceptance tests

Use successful and declined payments, partial stock availability, customer cancellation and an interrupted network connection. Review privacy disclosures and provide a support path for failed orders.

Vendra’s WooCommerce connection is scoped for each project. Compatibility with a specific extension is confirmed during onboarding, not inferred from its popularity.
